Overview

World’s End Lodge and the Irigoyen River are among the most unusual and otherworldly fisheries in Patagonia. No other Tierra del Fuego fishing lodge or river offers 10–20 lb Sea Run Brown Trout in small water laden with logs, surrounded by dense forests, and protected from the heavy Austral winds. It is the only fishing lodge in Argentina where anglers should wash the salt from their equipment after fishing the estuary for fresh Sea Run Browns and Robalo, or Rock Cod. This is an intriguing, challenging, and quality-over-quantity river, where each landed Sea Run Brown Trout is an unforgettable trophy.

The rustic elegance of World’s End Lodge welcomes only four anglers with single rooms, a friendly staff, a talented chef, and seasoned guides. The lodge sits on a high bluff with extraordinary and surreal views of the forests, Irigoyen River, and Atlantic Ocean, reminding you that you really have traveled to the ends of the earth.

Accommodations

World’s End Lodge sits within a remote 45,000-acre ranch in Tierra del Fuego, 180 kilometers south of Río Grande, surrounded by dense southern beech (lenga) forest and perched on a bluff overlooking the Irigoyen River and the Atlantic Ocean. With only four anglers per week in single-room accommodations, World’s End is the southernmost sea-trout lodge in Patagonia.

The lodge complex consists of three warm, wooden cabins. The guest cabin offers four large single rooms, each with a private bathroom, comfortable beds, electricity, and heating, plus a dedicated wader room where gear can dry.
A separate main cabin houses the living and dining areas, where guests gather for cocktails, enjoy outstanding cuisine from the professional chef, and take in views of the river valley.
The third cabin serves as a cozy lounge and fly shop, a gathering place for pre- and post-fishing stories.

Reliable 220v power, satellite internet, and an experienced Argentine staff ensure that, despite the end-of-the-world setting, guests enjoy personalized attention, warm hospitality, and all the comforts they need from mid-December through mid-March.

The Fishing

At Worlds End Lodge, 4 lucky anglers will target Sea Run Brown Trout on roughly 15 miles of the intimate Irigoyen River and its main tributary the Malenguena River.  The first of the 5 beats empties into the Atlantic Ocean and is easily accessed on foot.  This section offers fascinating fishing for Robalo (Falkland Mullet or Rock Cod) and Sea Run Browns in the surf and tide-fed channels.  The upper beats are accessed via 6 wheeled amphibian ATVs, called Argos.  The majority of the Irigoyen River is only 20-35 yards wide with many pools laden with logs. A stiff, single handed 7-8wt rod rigged with a floating or intermediate line is the perfect tool for precise presentations and leverage against stubborn Sea Run Browns. Anglers should be equipped with fast sink-tips for the occasional dee, short pool.  Although fish as large as 28 pounds have been caught, anglers should expect an average catch rate of 2.2 fish/day, and an average size of 9lbs.

The daily routine at Worlds End Lodge is composed of morning and evening fishing sessions with lunch and siesta at the lodge and dinner served around 11:00pm. The bilingual Argentine fishing guides at have years of experience fishing Sea Run Brown Trout and will prove invaluable to your success on this technical and captivating river.

Travel

With over 26 years organizing trips in exclusively Chile and Argentina, we make travel planning efficient and worry free. We’ll give you the domestic flights you need for your lodge dates and our travel team ensures your international flights connect smoothly. If preferred, we’ll even have our team in Buenos Aires meet you when you land.

  • After an easy overnight flight, anglers land at the Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) on Thursday and transfer 45 minutes to their hotel. If you have at least four hours between your international and domestic flights in Buenos Aires a hotel overnight is unnecessary.
  • On Friday anglers will transfer to the Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery Domestic Airport (AEP) and fly 4 hours south to the Rio Grande Airport (RGA.)
  • Anglers staying at World’s End Lodge are picked up at the Rio Grande Airport and driven 3.5 hours to the lodge. Some of this trip is on bumpy dirt roads.
  • Depending on flight schedules, anglers may have to utilize the Ushuaia Airport.

Our Take

  • World’s End Lodge on the Río Irigoyen in Tierra del Fuego is the southernmost sport fishing lodge in the world. As you stand outside the lodge, looking out to southern Atlantic Ocean, you can taste and smell the salty air and it feels every bit like you’d arrived at the end of the world.
  • While the log-laden and narrow Irigoyen River is more technical than the Rio Grande or Rio Gallegos, the absence of strong winds allows of precise casting.
  • Worlds End Lodge if perfect for Sea Trout enthusiasts who are not used to casting a double-handed rod.
  • We feel this special river is appreciated most when fished the week before or after a week on the Rio Grande or Rio Gallegos.
I wanted to pass a long a thank you for the trip. World’s End Lodge was more than expected, the meals incredible, and the fishing spectacular. Your responsiveness and help throughout the planning process and during the trip made everything much easier than any international travel I've done before. Thanks again Justi…..and by the way - we'd really love a few more FFP hats if you've got them!
