Puente Negro Lodge is a relatively new and welcome addition to the trout mecca of Northern Patagonia, Argentina. Ideally situated on the south bank of the Chimehuin River, the lodge provides quick and easy access to all three main sections of the Chimehuin, as well as the nearby Malleo, Collón Curá, and Aluminé Rivers. This refined property hosts up to eight guests in well-appointed double rooms, each with a private bathroom.
In addition to world-class fishing, Puente Negro offers unmatched convenience: just 10 minutes from the Chapelco Airport and 25 minutes from the picturesque town of San Martín de los Andes. Its prime location makes it an ideal lodge to combine with other renowned properties in the region.
Available for both half- and full-week stays, Puente Negro is an excellent choice for anglers seeking a sophisticated, comfortable lodge experience that’s neither overdone nor overpriced.
Puente Negro is a recently constructed stone house set on the banks of the Chimehuin River, just outside Junín de los Andes. The lodge accommodates up to eight guests in four double rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. Guests enjoy expansive gardens, a barbecue area, and a welcoming veranda perfect for evening cocktails. Inside, the lodge features spacious dining and living rooms, both stylishly decorated to create a warm and cozy atmosphere.
The lodge and fishing program are managed by head guide Nico Schinocca, while his wife serves as the lodge hostess. Together, they ensure that guests are well cared for and leave with unforgettable memories.
Puente Negro is also an excellent choice for non-anglers. In addition to convenient shopping trips to the elegant boutiques in San Martín, the area offers a range of outdoor excursions including horseback riding, birding, hiking, and more.
From Puente Negro Lodge, anglers can easily access the Aluminé, Collón Curá, and Malleo Rivers, but the main attraction is the Chimehuin River and its three distinct sections that flow past the lodge.
The Chimehuin originates at Lago Huechulafquen and runs southeast for roughly 33 miles before joining the Collón Curá. It’s a classic freestone river with crystal-clear water, willow-lined banks, and an ideal mix of pools, riffles, and runs. December brings strong caddis hatches, with most fish eagerly rising to the surface. January and February mark the peak of summer, with sporadic mayfly hatches and great opportunities for dry-fly, nymph, and streamer fishing. March and April are prime times for hoppers and other terrestrials, though larger dries are effective throughout the season. Streamers are typically most productive in spring and fall or when working deep pools.
Rainbows and browns average 15–18 inches, with many reaching 21–22 inches. Anglers fish from drift boats with experienced, bilingual local guides, and can choose to wade as much or as little as they prefer.
