In 2026, we hosted groups at the lodge for 12 days and are excited to return!
(Read that 2026 Report.)

Patagonian BaseCamp has a beautiful main lodge on the Río Palena near the little town of La Junta, plus 3 deluxe and isolated outpost camps. Between the lodge and the 3 camps, they have so many different fishing options that you’d need a month to fish it all. The main lodge accommodates up to 12 anglers in private single rooms, but the lodge feels intimate because on any given night, half the guests are out at the camps.

Throughout their season, they offer a 7-night, 10-night and 11-night program, each with a max of 6 anglers and everyone gets a private room. Anglers on the 7-night program will fish some excellent trout waters, but they will never have the option to experience Temple Camp on the Figueroa River or the secluded waters of Escondido Camp. In our experience, both camps are crown jewels of Patagonian BaseCamp but only offered on the 10 and 11-night programs.

This is why we are returning to host another 10-night program. We want to see our clients’ reactions when they arrive at Temple Camp or when they float the upper Figueroa River through the canyon for the first time. And we want another opportunity for our guests to experience the remoteness of Escondido Camp. Maybe this year, someone will actually land a 26-inch trout there.

But we also want to help our clients increase their odds of landing more big browns which populate the Río Palena just above the lodge. We’ve got some deadly tactics and gear to share specifically for that big fish section.

If you’d like to join, we highly recommend reserving your spots for the 10-night program ASAP and later downgrading to either of our 7-night hosted programs if needed. Should you need to pick either of the 7 night programs, we’ll still get to see you and hopefully share a a boat one day.  Over the years, we’ve seen how the 10- and 11-night programs during January and February get booked full before the 7-night programs do, so early planning is essential!

If you’d prefer not to wait until 2028 to experience Patagonian BaseCamp, contact Fly Fishing Patagonia for remaining open rods during the 2027 season.

Check in, guide orientation to discuss fishing options, cocktails and dinner.

WEDNESDAY -THURSDAY
Two full days guided fishing from Patagonian BaseCamp. From the lodge, fish waters such as the Rio Rosselot, Lago Rosselot, Rio Palena, Rio Quieto or the Rio Claro Solar.

FRIDAY, Jan 21
Start your overnight at IslaLeonCamp on the Rio Palena.
After breakfast, you will drive 2 hours up the Palena River, launch the boat, fish all day and end at IslaLeonCamp to spend one night. The Palena offer spectacular scenery that changes often as you float down. You’ll have lots of dry fly action with big terrestrials and wading opportunities from the gravel bars or by walking up one of the many tributaries. The Palena under normal conditions has a slight glacial tint and hold lots of 20-23 inch Brown Trout.

IslaLeonCamp is a comfortable tent camp accommodating 4 anglers in dome tents on wooden platforms, each containing 2 beds with quality linens, carpet and heaters. The camp has a bathroom with flush toilet and hot showers, and electricity on demand but do bring your headlamp. Dinner is prepared over an open fire pit and accompanied by cocktails, wine and beer.

SATURDAY, Jan 22
Yogurt parfait and eggs to order breakfast.  Fish all day on the Palena ending up in front of the main lodge. This section is riddled with sunken trees and rock ledges that hold some rather large Brown Trout. This section is also known for its scum lines where sipping rainbows are easily spotted. Overnight at the Patagonian BaseCamp Lodge.

SUNDAY-MONDAY
Two full days guided fishing from Patagonian BaseCamp.

TUESDAY, Jan 25
Start your 2 nights/3 days at TempleCamp  (TRIP HIGHLIGHT!)
Breakfast, drive to TempleCamp and drop luggage.  Launch boats on the Rio Pico and soon float into the upper Figueroa River. Its pure water, with a slight glacial tint, flows over white boulders, submerged tree trunks, and along densely forested mountains. This float through the canyon will likely be the most beautiful river you have ever fished.
End the float at TempleCamp beach. The camp accommodating 6 anglers in 3 dome tents on wooden platforms, each dome containing 2 beds with quality linens, carpet, electricity, heaters and private bathrooms complete with flush toilets and hot showers. There is a main dining building with a deck that overlooks the turquoise Figueroa River.

WEDNESDAY, Jan 26
the layover day at Temple Camp include either a float on the upper or lower Fig, fishing Lago Verde, or a float on the Rio Pico close to Argentina. There are even some lake options that almost never get fished.

Travel
Thank you for suggesting we do Patagonian Basecamp and the 10 day trip. Temple Camp and the Figero River was our favorite. We had great fishing with big fish every day, but I still can't believe I loss that big brown. The staff and food were over the top. Single rooms, sauna, hot tubbing every night were major pluses. Mas Pisco Sour, por favor. Beautiful place and we want to go back!
