Overview

“It is my firm opinion that the average free range Red Stag Hunting in Argentina is superior to the free range stags available in New Zealand.” – Craig Boddington, Sports Afield Magazine

Since 2007 we’ve been booking bow and rifle hunters at Estancia Quemquemtreu, a one of a kind 270 sq mile ranch in northern Patagonia. Few Argentine ranches are of this size and fewer can match the quantity and quality of these free-range Red Stags. The population of roughly 6000 deer have been managed for almost 30 years and success rates for SCI trophies are 100%.

Argentina Red Stag hunting ranches that offer bigger trophies have or had at one time fenced in enclosures for breeding and supplemental feed. The fair chase hunting at Quemquemtreu is the antithesis of this where selected harvesting is the only management they’ve used. In 2027, they are introducing special trophy management weeks (see below.)

The rugged cannons plus thick 6ft grass mounds and old willow trees along riparian corridors make this ranch a bow hunting paradise for not only Trophy Red Stag but wild boar as well.
Hunts are limited to 5 lucky guests to ensure an exclusive and truly exceptional hunt. Six hunters are welcome if they agree to share a guide and a room for the week. Hunter and guide will utilize a truck to access their hunting area and then go on foot from there. Horses might be used but only in the early season. In such a target rich environment, hunters will pass up many stags, relying on the guide who makes the final decision as to which animals can be taken. Rifle shots can be anywhere from 100-300 yards across the windy and treeless steppe. Most bow shots are usually 40-45 yards.
Located south of Junín de los Andes, the 173,000 acre Estancia Quemquemtreu employs about 25 gauchos and 10 in-house workers to run farm and guest operations. Your hosts ensure that the customs and refined informality of old Argentina estancias are as unaltered as the Patagonia frontier.
Hunters at Quemquemtreu will have single rooms in a private building adjacent to the main fishing lodge and main building. Hunting and angling guest enjoy cocktails in the bar and showroom before or after dinner. Family style meals are served with all natural meats, vegetable and other foods produced organically on the farm.

NEW FOR 2027
SPECIAL TROPHY CULLING WEEK

As part of Quemquemtreu’s stag management, they are introducing 3 new trophy culling weeks.
Starting April 11, hunters will target up to four mature 12 point stags that  qualify as a trophy, but the ranch deems inferior and increasing in population. These 12 + point trophy deer are not allowed to be taken with a regular Management Stag Hunt  Package during the previous weeks.

These special weeks will be more flexible than previous weeks. Hunters won’t have the pressure to find that large trophy and can spend part of their time hunting the 12 point trophy culls, or hunt wild boars, go fly fishing on the Collon Cura River or even enjoy a clay pigeon shoot similar to trap shoots done in the UK.
Special Trophy Cull Weeks are 6 nights/5 days but offered at a reduced rate of $9,200/hunter.

SPECIAL WEEK:
Hunters booking April 5-11, 2027 can include one of these trophy culls with a Management or Trophy Hunt Package.

Travel
I hunted the last week in March and then returned for the 2nd week in April. I saw no difference in rutting activity. Both hunts were on fire and simply amazing, especially for me as a bow hunter. The guides are excellent, even calling in stags which made for multiple encounters every session. I can not thank you enough for getting me in there!
