Overview

Argentina’s Golden Dorado River Cruiser is the first and only liveaboard, mobile fishing lodge in the country. The fully upgraded Paraná Gipsy mothership gives anglers unparalleled access to the most productive waters of the middle Paraná River.

Unlike land-based lodges, this unique floating program moves locations with ease—dramatically increasing your odds of finding more fish, better water, and explosive action. Each day, anglers spend 8 hours on the water with professional, bilingual guides targeting hard-hitting Golden Dorado, plus a variety of native species like Tararira, Pira Pita, and Wolffish. Evenings are spent unwinding on deck with fine Argentine wine and fiery sunsets over the Paraná.

To access the Golden Dorado River Cruiser, anglers take a short flight from Buenos Aires to the regional airport and are transported by car and boat to the Cruiser. With gourmet meals, an open bar, experienced guides, and a rotating backdrop of wild delta scenery, the Golden Dorado River Cruiser offers one of the most exclusive and efficient ways to experience Argentina’s top dorado waters.

Accommodations

The Golden Dorado River Cruiser, known as the Paraná Gipsy, is Argentina’s only floating mothership operation — an elegant, double-decker vessel that comfortably hosts up to 8 anglers. Four well-appointed, air-conditioned cabins, each with private en-suite bathrooms, are located on the lower deck, providing quiet and comfort after long days on the water.

The upper deck features a spacious lounge and dining area with panoramic windows, where guests gather for gourmet meals and 360-degree views of the river, delta, and surrounding wildlife. A professional chef prepares a rotating menu of Argentine cuisine — paired with fine wines, local cocktails, and a fully stocked open bar.

On calm evenings, guests may enjoy open-air beachside dinners under the stars or unwind on deck with a cold drink as the sun sets over new scenery. Each day the Cruiser navigates to fresh water, making it a moving lodge that offers both adventure and comfort, unmatched by any other Dorado destination in Argentina.

The Fishing

The Golden Dorado River Cruiser delivers an exceptional fly fishing experience on the middle Paraná River Delta — an intricate web of lagoons, side channels, tributaries, and clear creeks that border the main channel of the Paraná River. This mobile mothership accesses productive and often remote waters that are difficult to reach from land-based lodges.

Each morning, anglers board custom-built 17-foot skiffs powered by Honda 70HP engines and electric trolling motors. Two anglers may cast simultaneously, targeting ambush zones — structure, current seams, and creek mouths — where Golden Dorado hunt with explosive aggression.

Expect hard hits, powerful runs, and aerial acrobatics. Most Dorado average 5–7 lbs, but fish in the 10–12 lb range are regularly encountered. Standard gear includes 7–8 wt rods, 30 lb wire leaders, and durable 3/0 streamers. Lighter tackle and floating lines open up opportunities to catch Pacu, Palometa, Tararira, Wolffish, and Pira Pita.

Guides are bilingual professionals focused on your success, and quality fly and spinning gear is available to loan with advance notice. With short-stay options and easy access from Buenos Aires, the River Cruiser is a convenient add-on to any fishing or hunting itinerary in Argentina.

Itineraries

Shorter 4-5 night packages are available and make a great add-on to other fishing destinations in Argentina. However, a minimum of 6 days on Golden Dorado River Cruiser is recommended to buffer you against possible rain days.

Our Take

  • This program has become a popular add-on for our Patagonia trout anglers looking to extend their trip by 3–5 days aboard the Dorado Cruiser. That said, we recommend a 6–7 night stay to buffer against potential rain days.
  • New for 2026- this operation now offers dove hunting for any anglers who wish to experience it for a day or half day.
  • The mobility of the mothership enables you to get far out there. At night, the only other lights we see are the stars.
  • The Italian-Argentine owners have sophisticated palates, and the food and wines from the Cruiser’s small kitchen are on par with what’s served in Argentina’s finest lodges. Their ossobuco is unforgettable.
  • There are other short-stay Golden Dorado programs available. If a mothership experience isn’t your style,  contact FFP —we’ll walk you through alternatives.
It’s one of the very best trips I’ve undertaken in 50 years of fly fishing! Whatever expectations one might have before making the trip to the Parana River Delta for a week aboard the Parana Gypsy, the reality is even better. It truly is that good as a fishing destination. Superb accommodation, great food and wine, a wonderful team of helpful, experienced people... ...and the fishing, well, it is just terrific, simply superb. Feisty Golden Dorado slashing at streamers and poppers... ...airborne for a good part of the battle... ...a magnificent fly fishing experience. Plenty of other species too. I will be back; that’s for certain.
