Located just outside the scenic town of Coyhaique, Chile, Cinco Rios Lodge offers access to some of the finest fly fishing in this awe-inspiring corner of Patagonia. Since opening in 2002, the lodge has steadily secured private access to trout rivers flowing on both the east and west slopes of the Chilean Andes. . Throughout the week, anglers fish a variety of medium to large rivers—including the Simpson, Paloma, and Aysen—all set against the backdrop of the majestic Andes.

Known for its warm hospitality, seasoned guides, and gourmet cuisine, Cinco Rios is a top choice for serious anglers seeking world-class trout fishing with creature comforts to match.

Over the years, anglers going during the peak season could only book a Cinco Rios Lodge & Estancia del Zorro combo week (Best of Patagonia.) Starting Dec 2026, anglers can book a full week at Cinco Rios Lodge. A full week is ideal for those who prefer fishing larger rivers from a raft rather then wading small streams.

Accommodations

Cinco Rios Lodge accommodates up to 12 anglers in six spacious, well-appointed rooms. Each room features two king beds, a comfortable seating area, a large private bathroom, and an outdoor deck overlooking the scenic Rio Simpson.

The main lodge boasts a stunning great room with leather sofas, a rock fireplace, and sweeping views of the valley. Guests gather in the family-style dining room for meals and unwind at the fully stocked bar—complete with a rotating selection of Chilean craft beers on tap.

Additional amenities include a lounge with satellite TV, a well-equipped fly shop, and a hot tub with panoramic mountain views. The cuisine is consistently praised, with professional chefs preparing elegant meals that showcase local flavors. Expect grilled lamb, beef, and chicken alongside fresh-caught tuna, salmon, and ceviche from the southern fjords—each dish paired thoughtfully with classic Chilean wines.

The Fishing

The fishing program at Cinco Rios Lodge is built around the rich waters in the Coyhaique region. Guests fish renowned public rivers like the Simpson, Paloma, Mañihuales, and Aysen, while benefiting from the convenience and exclusivity of private access points secured by the lodge.

For anglers chasing double-digit trout, the lakes deserve special attention. Azul, Desierto, Elizalde, Castor, Frio, and Pollux are among the most productive, offering exciting opportunities to connect with big, aggressive fish. While much of the fishing is done from a boat, there are also excellent wade-fishing options on smaller creeks such as the Guillermo, De Leon, Megote, and several unnamed gems.

A typical week includes two days fishing by jet boat on the Azul and Paloma, two days floating larger rivers like the Simpson or Mañihuales, and two days wading spring creeks or hunting trophy trout in lakes. The program is fully customized to each angler’s preferences. On arrival, guests meet with head guide Lalo to shape a weekly plan—one that’s tailored, flexible, and adjusted as conditions or interests evolve.

King Salmon migrate up these clear coastal rivers and anglers who hope to tangle with these bruisers should be equipped accordingly or request the necessary gear from the guides in advance.

Our Take

  • This is one of the few areas with Cantaria Beetles, a 2.5-inch-long prehistoric looking beetle that trout devour. With careful planning, the hatch provides off the charts dry fly fishing with big bugs.
  • As we hit the take out on Day 1, one of our clients from Montana commented: “I don’t need to fish all week to know I am rebooking” We think that nicely sums up Cinco Rios Lodge.
  • The fishing is almost exclusively with dry flies at Cinco Rios and that’s possible all season. However, there are periods when streamers are suggested.
  • A full week at Cinco Rios is best for anglers seeking large trout, a variety of scenery and rivers and prefer fishing from a boat over wading small creeks.
  • We are returning to host a week in Jan 2028. Click or call 434-249-1783 us if you’d like to join us.
If you like to catch lots of brown trout, absorb beautiful scenery and enjoy a beautiful lodge, put Cinco Rios on your Bucket List! Sebastian and his wife, Kitty, and all the staff were welcoming and accommodating. The fishing guides were professional, knew where the fish hide and created gourmet lunches on the water shores. We will return!”
