“Where’s the Best Place to Fish in Patagonia?” – Here’s 1 Example

September 20, 2025

Nearly every angler who contacts us asks the same question: “Where’s the best lodge or place to trout fish in Patagonia?” The truth is, every lodge we represent has been someone’s “best trip”—it always depends on who you are, what you’re seeking, and when you travel.

That said, there are a few lodges that make our personal short list for well-traveled anglers—and here is an opportunity for one angler to experience one of those trips this winter.

We have one rod open at  PATAGONIAN BASECAMP LODGE – February 3–13, 2026.

This is the final rod available during their January–early March 2026 peak season. (It has been reserved twice but never confirmed with a deposit.)

Anglers fortunate enough to book a mid-summer week consistently rave about their experience—especially the unforgettable overnight floats at PBC’s remote outpost river camps.

WHAT MAKES THIS TRIP TO PBC STAND OUT

-Exceptional Fishing: Brown Trout here average larger than in most regions. Every week, guests typically encounter fish in the 23–24 inch range—and in 2024, one angler released a 29-inch trophy.

-Beautiful Lodge on the Palena River: Guests enjoy single, well-appointed rooms overlooking the river. The living area features a central 360° fireplace bordered by floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the river and evergreen Andes. A wood-heated hot tub and sauna sit right on the riverbank.

-Outpost Camps: Optional overnight camps on wilderness rivers feature dome tents with real beds—a big reason so many anglers return to PBC.

-The Figueroa River: On these dates, you’ll be among the few guests to experience TempleCamp on the Figueroa—perhaps the most beautiful river and canyon in Chilean Patagonia. This river and camp are not offered during the shorter 7-night program.

-February Timing: Water levels and weather are typically spot-on.

-Scenic Solitude: A remarkable variety of turquoise rivers and lakes—often with no other boats in sight all day.

-Cantaria Beetle Hatch: During this week, you’ll witness the phenomenon of the prehistoric-looking Cantaria Beetle hatch—an insect the size of your thumb that trout can’t resist.

-Easy Round-Trip Charter Flight: A convenient and visually stunning way to cross the snowcapped Andes of Chilean Patagonia.

Many lodges claim “the best fishing,” but Patagonian BaseCamp’s 10- and 11-night programs during mid-summer are truly special. The combination of jaw-dropping scenery, trophy Browns and Rainbows, and the rare chance to experience TempleCamp on “The Fig” make this one of Patagonia’s premier fishing adventures.
