Patagonia Cast & Blast: World-Class Quail Hunting and Trout Fishing from One Lodge

For years, a cast-and-blast experience in Patagonia combining high-volume California quail hunting with world-class trout fishing from one lodge was only a dream. Today, that dream is a reality.

In the rolling foothills of the Andes, where rivers cut through wild terrain and coveys of 30 to 50 quail on average flush from the brush, sportsmen can now enjoy one of South America’s most unique sporting adventures. Wild quail, first introduced to this region over a century ago, have flourished across central Patagonia, thriving in the same pristine landscapes that are home to some of Argentina’s best trout streams.

From a single, world-class lodge, guests can enjoy full access to over 200,000 private acres—exclusive lands that see virtually no pressure. Days are spent walking the open plains and soft, rolling hills alongside experienced, bilingual guides and well-trained bird dogs. Surrounded by the snow-capped Andes, the action is consistent, the bird numbers impressive, and the scenery unforgettable.

Just steps from the lodge flows the legendary Rio Grande (aka, the Futaleufú), offering blue-ribbon trout fishing for anglers of every stripe. Fish a variety of waters—from intimate spring creeks to large freestone rivers and private lakes holding 5-10lb trophy rainbows.

For those seeking the ultimate Patagonian trifecta, guests can also add duck hunting to the mix. Picture early mornings in the blinds with Labrador retrievers, followed by afternoon quail over dogs or an evening drift for rising trout—this is the kind of variety few destinations in the world can offer. Whether you prefer to focus your trip on wing shooting or fishing, or an even split, your itinerary is fully customizable.

The experience is hosted by a multi-generational Argentine outfitting family with over four decades of welcoming discerning international anglers—and more recently, hunters. These pioneers of wild quail hunting in Patagonia pair traditional Beretta O/Us and side by side shotguns with expert guides, warm hospitality, and private access to some of the region’s most game-rich lands.

Non-hunters and non-anglers are equally at home here. The region offers a wealth of activities including scenic hikes, horseback riding, birdwatching, wine tasting, and day trips to Los Alerces National Park—a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
