Adding Dove Shooting To Your Fishing Trip -Things to Consider

October 15, 2024

As dove season winds down in the states, the busy season for Argentina dove lodges is just starting. Luckily for international sportsmen, Argentina’s popular dove season coincides with the Patagonia Trout and Golden Dorado fishing seasons and opens the door to a truly world-class cast & blast opportunity.

If that sounds appealing to you, here are the possible combinations and things to consider for each.

Trout Fishing and Dove Shooting

Trout and dove don’t inhabit the same region and since only two airports within Patagonia’s trout territories fly direct to the airports within Argentina’s dove territories, you may have to connect through Buenos Aires.

The Cordoba Province is one of Argentina’s dove hunting meccas. Dove shooters can access of over 20 dove lodges via the Cordoba Airport. Today, there are direct flights connecting Cordoba and two cities in Patagonia, Bariloche and El Calafate. From these towns, one can fish for Trout, Sea Run Brown Trout, King Salmon and even Steelhead. These direct flights make it super easy, but only operate on certain days so careful, advance planning is required.

If you are keen on trout fishing in Chilean Patagonia and want a few days of dove shooting, all your dove options are in Argentina. When fishing Chile, you’ll book a round-trip ticket from Santiago Chile to your fishing spot.  When you return to Santiago, you could simply take a direct flight to Cordoba, Argentina, directly across the Andes from Santiago. After your dove hunt, you’d simply fly home from Buenos Aires.

Golden Dorado Fishing and Dove Shooting

Golden Dorado inhabit northern Argentina and there are literally millions of doves there. Entre Rios is one of the dove provinces north of Buenos Aires and it’s every bit as good as the more famous province of Cordoba to the west. These northern provinces with dove and dorado encompass a massive area and therefore you’ll spend at least half a day driving or flying between your dove lodge and your dorado lodge.  Only at a couple locations can you catch Golden Dorado and hunt dove at the same lodge

If you use one lodge for both Dorado and dove, your package will be 5-6 nights. If you are hoping for a trout and dove cast & blast, count on at least 10 nights and maybe a night in a hotel. If you don’t mind a rushed experience, you could shorten it.

It is also possible to add just 1 or 2 days of Dorado fishing to your dove hunt and you can do that all from BA on the front or back end of your trip.

There’s no shortage of great fishing lodges and great shooting lodges which means that finding availability for both on the dates you wish to travel is fairly easy with advanced planning.

This is the kind of thing we do every day, so please reach out if you’d like to learn more about the phenomenal cast and blast trips in Chile and Argentina.
